Installing Zend Guard on Linux distributions (Centos 6, Debian, Ubuntu)

Zend Optimizer is a PHP extension and can be used to run PHP scripts that are encoded with Zend Guard. Zend Optimizer is compatible with PHP 5.2. If you are running PHP 5.3 or above you should use Zend Guard, which is an analogue of Zend Optimizer. In this article I will go through the steps you need to follow when installing Zend Guard on popular Linux distributions like Centos 6, Debian, Ubuntu.

1. First you need to know the linux distribution, it’s architecture, and the PHP version you are using.

  • To find the linux distribution, type cat /etc/issue in terminal.
  • To find the architecture of your system, type uname -a in terminal.
  • To find the php version, type php -v in terminal.

2. Download the appropriate Zend Gard

Quick fix for skype not opening in Ubuntu 13.04

How to install Eclipse Juno in Ubuntu 13.04?

**This tutorial can be used to install Eclipse in any Ubuntu version.**

Basically there are two methods to install eclipse IDE in Ubuntu.
1. Using Ubuntu Software Center
2. Download Eclipse IDE package and then install manually (personally recommended)

Personally I prefer to use the second method. Because If you chose the first method and if you need to install Eclipse IDE on multiple Ubuntu machines, You will have to download Eclipse IDE on each and every machine. That will cost bandwith as well as time. Therefore, in this tutorial I’m only going to show the second method.

In order to do this first you need to make sure that you have Java installed. To check that you can type

in the terminal and it will give you the current java version installed on your computer. If you do not have Java installed on your computer please follow Install JDK on Ubuntu tutorial in order to install Java.

How to Reinstall and Update Grub 2 with a Ubuntu Live CD

I had Windows 7 + Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) installed on my PC. But I needed to develop applications to Windows Phone 8. Since the SDK for Windows Phone 8 only works perfectly under Windows 8, I had to upgrade my Windows 7 installation to Windows 8. After the upgrade, and when I reboot my PC, I noticed that the GRUB won’t appear any more. The reason is Grub 2 gets overridden when you install Windows or another Operating System. But It can be fixed. In order to make Ubuntu control the boot process back again, you just need Reinstall (Repair/Restore) Grub using a Ubuntu Live CD. This is how it should be done :

Install JDK 7 on Ubuntu (Precise Pangolin, Quantal Quetzal)

Today I installed Ubuntu GNU/Linux 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) in my new laptop. So I had to install JDK in order develop and run Java applications on it. I installed it manually. This is how it was done. This tutorial should works with 12.04  LTS (Precise Pangolin) too.

1. First you need to download JDK 7 (At the moment it’s JDK 7U11) – Download
